Viewin' da Shortz

Figuring out which short films each year will get the nomination is always like finding the needle in the haystack. Whether or not it's one of the possibles this year, the following short film ("Guy Walks Across America") is nothing short of amazing:

I happened to see a clip of that on TV, which led me to find it online on YouTube. It's very fascinating to know how meticulous the measurements of the production were, which makes it all the more astounding.

Still haven't seen the majority of live short noms from this past year, not that it hurt my predictions much. Is the film above valid at all for shorts of 2010, and if so, does a time-lapse stop-motion short count as live action or animation?

'Round Here

Well, whaddaya know? Look what popped up 'round here! Seems that a camera gear rental place is coming to the neighborhood.

Called BorrowLenses.com, this company is moving from elsewhere to here in San Carlos literally this weekend. May or may not utilize 'em in the future, but good to know they're close by!

Last time I rented camera stuff from somewhere, it was from Avista in [what I believe was] Mountain View (they've since moved). This is much closer!

Intro2Photobucket

As it seems images can no longer be displayed if it is not directly on a webpage of the server as well through zymic, I'm going to have to try a few different things:

B&W,noir,self pic

The first is something called Photobucket. It's specifically a picture server that is MADE for storing them! The pic of yours truly is being stored there, and is the first of more to come from the directorG server there.

Next, I'm needing to put some other pics on my Bingodisk server, which these problems shouldn't be arising from anymore... BTW, the next GPicturama entry (about a top!) now exists.

Paradigm Shift

To deal with the resultant absurdity from Blogger's anti-FTP stance in recent months, I've come to the conclusion of an experimental visual change in this site for displaying the News Blog. It deals with iFrames, should pop up within a week, and will coincide with other elements already on the main page.

In testing iFrames within this blog itself, above is a recent entry from Cinematical, in which Cinematographer Waller Pfister is interviewed about his spectacular work with Christopher Nolan over the years, the latest being for Inception.

BTW, got word that JOTM did not make it into the SF Short Fest. Expected, but still was successful in getting it into IMDb through the entry process.

Fest Feast

Here's an update on entered fests, and tentative future ones...

To start with, for 2010, Journey of the Mind was officially entered into both the San Francisco International Festival of Short Films and the Big Bear Lake International Film Festival, which each have festival dates in September. For the SF Fest, there's a notification date of July 15th (coming up this week) for when they would let me know whether or not we are selected for the festival. Big Bear's notification date isn't until mid-August.

For future fests, I'd really like to get The Nightmare out this year, possibly into Sundance and/or Cinequest SJ. The earlier deadline for those two fests is in August, so I better hop to it. I'd only need to work on it slightly. Doing this also would place one more entry from Thomas Productions into IMDb. Let's get it on!

Movies & Emmys

Here's quickly talkin' 'bout Movies and Emmys, and not in that order! I was ecstatic this morning to hear about the Emmy nominations, thanks to ABC's hilarious mockumentary comedy show, Modern Family, which earned 14 noms after its first season! That includes 5 acting noms (it's a great ensemble), and Best Comedy Series. Boo yea!

Since this li'l blog entry is kinda advertising other things anyway, there are two movies about to be out that I definitely want to see. (Finally, movies are out that I actually want to see!) Both Inception and The Kids Are All Right will be out soon. I want to see both; I neeeed to see Christopher Nolan's pic. He's probably my favorite director of the moment, unless I can find a way to garner Kathryn Bigelow to an interview on PenTV's One on One in San Carlos...

Fixing the Hole

At least for the time being, yet another site page has been created through zymic. This 4th site page, now found at directorG.zymichost.com, looks very similar to what our site did prior to the huge site crash of uuuq.com. Thank goodness I keep backups!

I am hoping by the end of this summer to get a single site that works for everything Thomas Productions and beyond, instead of having to jump all over the place for GPicturama, Movie Ratings, YouTube Archives and more. We'll see it when we get there, but at least another site is in existence for now.

In the coming days, I will try to fix any broken links in this News Blog. Then, it's back to normal. [Whew!]
